The National Register of Historic Places is the nation’s record of historic properties worthy of preservation. The Historic Santa Fe Basis, established in 1961, is a 501(c)(three) nonprofit group dedicated to preserving, defending and promoting the historic properties and diverse cultural heritage of the Santa Fe area and to educating the public about Santa Fe’s history and the importance of preservation.
The National Trust’s 2018 checklist consists of a mix of historic places that could be misplaced as a consequence of of lack of maintenance, harm from pure disasters, or are subject to development proposals which might change the character of these national treasures, says Stephanie K. Meeks, president and CEO of the National Belief for Historic Preservation.
If the board concurs that the nominated property meets Nationwide Register standards (See beneath), the nomination is sent to the State Historic Preservation Officer for signature after which to the Keeper of the Register at the National Park Service in Washington, D.C., for last evaluation, approval, and placement on the Nationwide Register.
